Alfresco provides faceted search feature to search your content from Alfresco repository. Now here is small description about faceted search. Faceted Search is advance search feature; users can search content compilation by applying various filters to their search results in a navigational way. Faceted search splits up search results into multiple categories, usually showing counts for each, and lets the user to "drill down" or further control their search results based on those facets.
Faceting is performed on indexed rather than stored values. This is because the primary use for faceting is drill-down into a subset of hits resulting from a query, and so the selected facet value is used to build a filter query which factually matches that value in the index.
Alfresco search engines supports distinct and multiple character wildcard searches in single terms. If you want to search for “abcd” or “abdc” you can apply the search “ab?d” or “ab*d”. Another example of Alfresco search is selective Searches. The selective searches are based on the Levenshtein Distance, or Edit Distance algorithm. To search for a tem similar in spelling to “foam” you can use “Foam~”. This search will find terms like “foam” and “roams”. In addition, you can specify the correspondence by providing a value between o and 1 such as “foam~0.7”.
Another excellent feature of Alfresco search is that it is potential to search the Alfresco repository straightforwardly from the browser.
